Committee Descriptions as of August 2015

SVPOA COMMITTEES

All committees are open to all residents of the village, only members may chair/co-chair a committee.

Activities Committee: At the Activities Committee meeting on July 7th the committee discussed the description of the organization and this is what they have submitted.  The Activities Committee plans all the events throughout the year. Picnics are held for Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. Other social events throughout the year may include Ice Cream Socials, Saturday morning breakfast socials each month (members may sign up for these at their own expense) and celebrations of other holidays throughout the year. These events are at the discretion of the Activities Committee.

Library/Video Library – Both are located in the clubhouse. Books and videos are purchased and both areas are maintained. In the Library, older titles are on occasion weeded out and donated. The Library is broken down into sections which include: New Fiction, Older Fiction, Non-Fiction, Autobiography/Biography/Memoir, History, Civil War, Amish/Inspirational and Miscellaneous. Notices for anything newly acquired in the Library are posted on the large white board hanging on the wall and a printed notice is posted in the Barn on the small bulletin board on the table. For reference, a binder is on the table in the Library with a complete list of all books, listed by author and also by book title.

The Video Library is in the smaller of the two rooms and consists of the newer DVD’s and many older VHS movies as well as VHS & DVD’s that are in separate sections that includes war, classic and kids. New videos have a notice placed on the table in the video room and also in the Barn on the small bulletin board on the table. Anything new is also printed in the newsletter.

Web site/FB page – These do not require any committee and are managed by Annamarie Ricciardi and Marianne Graham.   We always welcome input from members and residents on how to improve on both sites.

Villager – The Villager is printed every other month, traditionally after the board meeting.   There are two committees who help get the paper out: 1) the copy committee and, 2) the delivery committee.   The paper is the “information” place for all members and residents.   The minutes of board meetings are posted; the committees reports are posted; the name/address list is included and the Treasurer’s report is included along with information we hope is of interest to everyone.   We also include a calendar for the following two months listing all the activities that will take place.

Hospitality – When a resident passes away a memorial donation is sent to a charity of the family’s choice.  In the event of an emergency in the village, the committee would call all residents to update them on the situation.

Knit and Crochet – The Ladies of the Knit and Crochet Group (or known as The Hookers) make many beautiful items throughout the year which are donated to residents who are homebound, hospitals and hospices.

Finance Committee – works on preparing a budget for the next year and reviews the financial reports.

Building Committee – Handles our barn and clubhouse with regular maintenance as needed; advise the board of any improvements that the committee deems necessary; remove trash from both buildings each week; maintain the flashing stop light at McDonalds. We take inventory twice a year of paper products etc. that may need to be ordered.

Decorating Committee – This committee does an awesome job decorating our community center, the barn, for every season/ holiday during the year.   From the table decorations to wall decorations and window decorations, they work very hard to make the barn our home away from home.
